《简爱：JANE EYRE（英文原版）》读后感100字

Around 22 hours had been devoted to this classical novel, which is also my first English novel finished in Wechat Reading App. Words defied a vivid description of my current feeling. If I try, such words as warmness, self-reflection and inspiration maybe a good choice.

A love story with happy ending always kindles warmness to readers. Jane and Mr. Rochester, such a wonderful and destined soul mate, experienced their sufferings alternatively and then happily married. Jane Eyre is a beautiful story as those fairy tales in which prince and princess lived happily without worrying the short of money, the hustle and bustle of working life, the determination of purchasing house or not and any other trivial but annoyed matters. Those stories can never be true in reality but are reasonably cherished by us, the commonplace people. We need them to open a window from the motionless and passionless lives to regain hope and strength. So as I reached final part of the story and witnessed the tranquil but contented life, a sense of warmness flooded me. All previous complaints about some unreasonable plots were overwhelmed by appreciation. Yes, it is a warm story.

Jane Eyre has long been considered as the symbol of pursuing of independence of women. That was what I learnt when I read it as a high school student. A girl at that age seldom thought independently, and always drifted with the popular thoughts. But now, as a mother of a tow-year-old boy, I generated some new layer of feelings. When I read

the miserable childhood of Jane and felt deeply sorry for her being isolated, tortured, mistreated and even wrongly accused, it suddenly occurred to me why she grew affection towards Mr. Rochester. She longed for parental love and then unconsciously sought it from Mr. Rochester, whose age is more than 20 years elder. That can also rationalize the seemingly absurd love between Jane and Mr. Rochester. To me, Mr. Rochester doesn’t hold much charming character deserves or arouses Jane’s love. Well, he is eloquent but arrogant, sincere but deceptive. His tricky and well-planed way of chasing Jane in Thornfield was a good story for reader, but was tortuous for Jane. What’s worse, I can never forgive him for not trying to confess his existing marriage to Jane. Of course, trying to save his lunatic wife’s life in fire redeemed his image in my eyes, and that’s why I felt it brilliant to witness a happy ending. So age brought not only wrinkles but also self-reflection, from which we know better the world, the nature and our inner self.

Apart from Jane and Mr. Rochester, some other characters are worth mentioning. Helen, Jane’s first true friend, was premature in some way. She affected Jane deeply and brought peace to her. Without her, Jane would grow up with full of hospitality, anger and self-pity. Helen passed away in the same bed with Jane. A pure, gifted and obedient angle came and went away quietly and peacefully, leaving readers full of tears in eyes. The other character is St. Jone, a controversial person. I may not guess

whether he loves Jane or not, because it’s hard to guess in one self-person narrative. He is a kind-hearted, upright, faithful but rational and restrained person. It brings no fun for living with a person full of doctrines and glorious believes. But St. Jone erected Jane’s collapsed faith to life. Helen soothed Jane while St. Jone rebuilt Jane.
